The Swap Shop

Objects have stories and sentimental value behind them, to which a few numbers and a dollar sign rarely do any justice. The Swap Shop is a space to gather and share these stories.

The Swap Shop is part thrift store, part interactive art installation.

The Swap Shop was a physical installation dreamt up by AJ Korkidakis to turn an empty room in the student lounge at Concordia University's downtown campus into something useful for students who often found themselves on shoestring budgets. The functional purpose of the Swap Shop is to be a useful place where students can leave objects they no longer want and find other things they may need. But the space's deeper purpose is to allow students to experience the value of objects beyond price tags.

When you donate an object to the Swap Shop you attach a tag to it. Not a price tag; but a tag with a note about the object. Where you got it, a funny story, why you're giving it up- anything.

Objects have stories and sentimental value behind them, to which a few numbers and a dollar sign rarely do any justice. The Swap Shop is a space to gather and share these stories.

The Swap Shop is a fully student run and operated space which seeks to take a stand against disposable consumer culture and give new perspective to the way the public asserts the value of objects.
